GOOD FOR YOUR HAPPINESS, HEALTH, MIND AND SOUL AND THE PLANET, TOO
Ahead of Earth Day 2021, Dubai’s disruptive dessert maker reminds everyone they can indulge in treats without ruining the planet
House of Pops’ extensive range of all-natural ice pops combine natural ingredients, hand-crafted recipes, sustainability and happiness in an irresistible treat – in mindfully sustainable packaging
House of Pops, Dubai’s most popular and healthiest all-natural brand of ice pops and ice creams, continues its mission to spread natural happiness, one handcrafted ice treat at a time. But did you know the brand also has sustainability at its heart, too?
Serving a variety of refreshing mostly fruit-based lollies, the House of Pops range is free from artificial colourings, flavourings, refined sugars, and rich in fibre. They are a fun, delicious way to get closer to your ‘Five A Day’ – and with a growing selection tropical and traditional ice pop flavours in its Happiness, Keto, Royal and Dipped range, you’re spoilt for choice, too.
But not only are the pops super tasty and super healthy they’re also super sustainable too.
Marcela Sancho, co-founder of the disruptive dessert company, says: “Our ice pops are designed to taste like a treat, without all the calories and nasty additives of other dessert treats on the market. We’ve worked hard to ensure they’re super healthy, all natural, and with organic ingredients where possible. But, since we launched the company, we have also ensured everything we do is from a sustainable point of view.”
Marcela and the team are acutely aware of the damage plastic food packaging does to the environment.
According to shocking statistics from UAE environmental blog, Sustainability Tribe, the average consumer in the UAE generates 5.4kgs of waste every day. Some 24% of annual waste is single use plastic. Scientists say that single use plastics – like drink bottles, and that sandwich packet you had for about 30 seconds at lunchtime – take a whopping 450 years to decompose. This is causing a massive issue for landfill, purely in terms of space, but also for wildlife, energy use and the oceans.
“We are seeing the UAE government taking steps to ban single use plastic and plastic carrier bags, so industry – and consumers really need to sit up sand pay attention. When governments get involved, you know it’s a serious global problem that needs to be tackled – and we are helping tackle it, one pop at a time,” says entrepreneur Marcela.
Mindful of Nielsen research from many years ago which revealed nearly two thirds of regional consumers – increasingly mindful of the need to help protect and sustain the natural environment – are willing to pay more for products from companies committed to positive social impact, House of Pops set out with a mission to be a crowd pleaser from the get go, not only in terms of taste, but in minimising impact, too.
With these startling figures in mind, and a desire to make a difference, House of Pops employed a packaging solutions manufacturer to ensure the products are packaged in 100% compostable packaging – a material that looks and feels like plastic, and offers the same health and hygiene advantages. The compostable film provides high barrier thus preventing the permeation of water, water vapor, oil, oxygen, aroma, flavour, gas etc… and is made of naturally occurring pant-based materials.
The compostable material is four times more expensive than traditional, environmentally-damaging single use plastic, but such is the level of House of Pops’ commitment to sustainability.
Marcela says: “We believe we are the only ice cream stick in the Middle East currently using this compostable packaging. We are very proud of this – but would love others to follow in our footsteps. Not only this, but our online delivery boxes are not made of traditional laminated materials – as the lamination has plastic in it. We have worked hard to put sustainability first into our products. We are as passionate about the environment as we are about our flavours.”
Why not indulge in a sweet treat this Earth Day – April 22nd – with a guilt free House of Pops.
Did you know?
House of Pops packaging is bio-based, made of biomass – naturally-occurring substances, such as corn, sugar cane or cellulose.
House of Pops packaging is compostable, which basically means it rots in six months, after industrial composting, into Co2, water and soil. It can also be mechanically or chemically recycled.
The taste of nature on a stick
House of Pops’ fruit-forward ice pops are vegan and feature up to just five natural main ingredients. Its winning recipes are the secret behind its hand-crafted ice pops and ice creams.
The Happiness range features just five ingredients or less, and is essentially super tasty, super healthy frozen fruit on a stick. While there’s a ‘Fancy Choco’ (cocoa and coconut) one in the range, the rest are fruit and natural sweeteners – but in awesome flavour combos like Super Strawberry, Galactic Lime, Crazy Coconut, Blackberry Lemonade and Pineapple Basil.
If Keto (high fat, low carb) is your thing, grab one of House of Pop’s keto range, which is more akin to ice cream – but unlike any ice cream you’ve ever tasted before. Featuring organic coconut milk and cream, natural fruits and natural sweeteners, these guilt-free treats also feature vegetable fibre for extra health benefits. You can choose from Strawberry, Coffee, Vanilla or Chocolate flavours.
Royal Pops, are studded with real fruit pieces, making them the perfect healthy snack – and the perfect social media tool, too! The funky flavour catwalk includes indulgent Chocolate Banana, Chocolate Strawberry, Coconut Strawberry and Mango Strawberry.
