It’s official! Samui Sandbox is ready for you!
We’re delighted to announce that Koh Samui is now ready to welcome international tourists quarantine-free! The Centre for Covid-19 Administration (CCSA) proposed the Samui Sandbox programme as part of the scheme to reopen Thailand which has now been officially approved by the cabinet.
Under the new Samui Sandbox programme, international vaccinated tourists will no longer have to worry about the previous quarantine restrictions and will be able to fly directly to the island from Bangkok via ‘sealed route’ flights operated by Bangkok Airways.
Visitors will be required to stay at SHA+ hotel (s) for the first 7 days and will only be required to take two RT-PCR tests in total; the first one upon arrival and the second one on day 5. For the initial 7 days, guests may change their SHA+ accommodation up to 3 times if preferred, however, the RT-PCR tests must be booked and prepaid with the first SHA+ hotel of choice.
Where on Koh Samui will I be able to visit during the first week?
Provided that the guests obtain a negative test result on arrival, they may travel freely. Whilst on the island, It’s important to strictly follow the DMHTTA precautions: D – Distancing, M – Mask wearing, H – Handwashing, T – Temperature check, T – Testing for COVID-19, and A – alert application. Masks must be worn at all times in public areas and in any vehicle with two or more people. Guests must also abide by the measures put in place by Surat Thani province during their stay – no stress! And there’s more good news! After completing 7 days on Koh Samui, visitors will be issued a ‘release form’ allowing them to travel freely within the Kingdom of Thailand.
A great chance to spend some time on the stunning close-by islands of Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. Some provinces may still have restrictions depending on the situation, therefore we encourage visitors to check before making further travel plans.
What necessary requirements and documentation do guests need to be eligible for the Samui Sandbox?
A passport with at least 6 months validity;
Have been in a Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) approved country for 21 days or more;
Been fully vaccinated with a vaccine approved by Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) or the World Health Organisation (WHO);
Have booked and purchased return air travel;
Have booked and paid for accommodation, and required RT-PCR test/s at a SHA Plus hotel;
Have purchased medical insurance with COVID-19 treatment coverage of at least US$100,000. TAT recommends that travelers make sure to check the small print of any COVID-19 insurance policy before purchasing. Ultimately, the policy should cover the cost of treatment and other medical expenses associated with being infected with COVID-19, including in-patient hospitalisation. The policy should also cover the whole duration that travelers are planning to stay in Thailand; Have tested negative for COVID-19 no longer than 72 hours before travel.
