Jeddah, KSA: Committed to meaningful community and sustainability engagement, Shangri-La Jeddah has announced a partnership with Etaam that will regularly donate high-quality food to people in need. Eliminating food waste and aiding good causes in due diligence toward the community, the luxurious hotel has opted for a sustainable, charitable solution that will preserve surplus food and drink after weddings, buffets, banquets, and other corporate events.
Food waste is described as one of the biggest problems facing mankind today. From that perspective, Shangri-La Jeddah is offering un-used, unspoiled goods to the Etaam association, a licensed food bank with branches throughout the Kingdom.
General Manager Alexander Blair said: “At Shangri-La, community engagement is integral to our commitment to corporate social responsibility. We strive to work together with the community to bring a positive impact, and Etaam is a philanthropic organisation that enables us to do this. Through Etaam, spare food at the hotel is put to good use by providing it to those in dire need.”
The ground-breaking partnership was kickstarted with spare goods remaining from the highly popular ALFOLK venue during the Holy Month of Ramadan. Since then, the hotel has continued to support the food bank, with a stock of premium foodstuffs that remain unused from the range of dining-based events. The initiative will help to achieve social solidarity by providing food support to beneficiaries and building an effective alliance to save food resources from waste.
