FENIX LAUNCHES THE FIRST LICENSED MICROMOBILITY SERVICE IN THE KINGDOM OF BAHRAIN

FENIX e-scooters with in-built sanitizers will facilitate safe movement of people in Bahrain and continuation of economic activity during the pandemic

The Bahrain launch marks the micromobility operator’s third operational country in the GCC and fifth city launched in the company’s first 100 days of operations.

FENIX rapidly grows in the region with the goal to become the first Pan-GCC operator by 2022.

Bahrain, March 2021: FENIX, the leading micromobility operator in the Middle East with a mission to unleash urban potential and propel communities forward, has launched its services in Bahrain as the first licensed micromobility operator in the Kingdom, following the recent ministerial decree by the Ministry of  Transportation and Telecommunications (MTT) to initiate shared micromobility services in the country. FENIX has commenced operations at The Avenues – Bahrain, the first shopping & leisure destination of its kind with a unique seafront location strategically located in the heart of Manama, the capital of the Kingdom of Bahrain, in partnership with Mabanee Bahrain. The FENIX service will expand to other communities in a phased roll out in coordination with the Bahrain MTT and government municipalities.

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, micromobility has quickly emerged as the safest form of shared transportation across the world. FENIX launched in mid-November 2020 with the aim to ignite impactful commerce in the midst of the pandemic, empowering cities and countries to facilitate safe economic activity.

Jaideep Dhanoa, Co-Founder and CEO of Fenix says: “Countries and governments across the world are quickly realizing the economic and human benefits of micromobility, reducing mobility friction to unleash our collective urban potential. The Kingdom of Bahrain has a pronounced need for micromobility, given the dense population and growing congestion. The country has created an attractive platform for micromobility investment via progressive regulatory policies, a phased infrastructure development plan, and a strong public-private partnership approach. We are proud to be the first micromobility partner in Bahrain and to make a concentrated bet on the Bahrain market. We are confident that our service will provide immediate value to the community as the safest form of shared transportation in the midst of the COVID pandemic.”

FENIX has rapidly grown as the market leader in the GCC, unleashing urban potential one city at a time. Bahrain marks the company’s third operational country and Manama the company’s fifth city in the GCC, after successful launches in the UAE and Qatar. The purpose built e-scooters are available in communities across Abu Dhabi, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah in UAE, Doha in Qatar and now Manama in Bahrain.

IQ Sayed, Co-Founder and CTO of Fenix says: “We have a bold goal to become the first  Pan-GCC microbility operator by 2022. We are humbled with the receptiveness of our government and community partners, allowing our service to expand our presence to new markets across the GCC. There is a large market gap of mobility options in the region, and FENIX is seeing incredible demand for our micromobility solutions. FENIX empowers commuters with the freedom of choice, by offering users shared and private micromobility services. We are committed to taking micromobility to the next level in the region and are investing in new technologies and innovations  that elevates our user experience.”

FENIX was the first micromobility operator in the world to introduce integrated hand sanitization packs on every FENIX e-scooter to ensure rider safety. FENIX is also the first operator in the Middle East to introduce a private subscription service for e-scooters – MyFENIX – which allows users to get their own private FENIX e-scooter with unlimited rides, free insurance & maintenance for an affordable weekly or monthly fee. Prior to its launch, FENIX secured the largest pre-launch venture financing in UAE history of $3.8 million led by Maniv Mobility. In February 2021, FENIX secured an additional $1.2 million to complete its $5m Seed Round of financing from Emkan Capital, a Saudi VC fund, and Panthera Capital Ventures, a UAE VC fund, to support R&D and regional expansion.

FENIX has the largest fleet of electric vehicles in the region. Every FENIX ride is insured with personal accident, third party liability and product liability insurance.
