The MICHELIN Guide is the definitive resource for assessing the quality of restaurants and hotels at a national and international level. On the occasion of the unveiling of the 2020 edition, the “Michelin Chef Mentor Italy 2020” Prize was awarded by Eberhard & Co. to Gennaro Esposito, who has demonstrated an exceptional natural ability in sharing his knowledge and in training, developing and promoting new generations of chefs.
Mario Peserico, General Manager of Eberhard & Co., presented the award to the chef whose brilliant career has made the Torre del Saracino in Vico Equense (Naples) famous. The restaurant has produced some of the top new talents, to whom Esposito was able to convey his thinking that “results are the fruit of mental order, which provides for creativity certainly, but which translates into rigour and discipline, all well balanced like the ingredients of a great dish.” After an apprenticeship with Gianfranco Vissani and valuable experience in Montecarlo and Paris, he achieved 2 coveted Michelin stars for his restaurant and its cuisine, which is firmly rooted in the local region.
Gennaro Esposito also received a diving watch from the Scafograf 300 collection, a model that won the 2016 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève.
“It is a great pleasure for us to collaborate once again this year with the Guide, the foremost tool providing a comparative evaluation of the best restaurants and hotels in our country, and to be able to award a prize to a chef of the calibre of Gennaro Esposito, who has managed to combine the training of young cooks along with his incredible career.” commented Mario Peserico. “Our bond with Michelin, now in its fourth consecutive year, is based on the strong affinity between watchmaking and cooking, united by the concepts of craftsmanship and dexterity. The art of preparing a dish, just like the mechanism of a watch, Mario Peserico and Gennaro Esposito takes place in perfect synchronicity, and each element is an essential ingredient to achieve an exceptional culinary architectural construction and offer an impeccable and extraordinary taste experience.”
The 65th edition of the Guide was unveiled in a charming new location, the Municipal Theatre of Piacenza. In the year in which the famous Michelin Man celebrates his 121st birthday, 374 restaurants have been awarded MICHELIN stars in Italy: 328 restaurants hold * 1 star, of which 30 are new entries, 35 restaurants have obtained ** 2 stars and 11 restaurants have been awarded *** 3 stars.
