During the Spanish War in the late 1930s, Majestic Hotel & Spa Barcelona hosted several key political figures and world renowned war correspondents such as Ernest Hemingway, David Seymour and Diana Forbes-Robertson, who reported about the war to the world from within the hotel. During WWII, the hotel served as a safe haven for Belgian Prime Minister, Hubert Pierlot and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Paul Henri Spaak, during their pursuit to reach London and establish a government-in-exile.

In 1996, Majestic Hotel & Spa Barcelona became the first hotel in Spain to hold an art fair named “New Art”, organized by Associació Art Barcelona where both national and international galleries displayed a collection of paintings by young or relatively unknown artists in 60 rooms. Within four days, the exhibition was visited by ten thousand people, making it a successful event. The hotel hosted a second edition of the fair in 1997 before its renovation, it took place over four floors and was visited by eleven thousand people in three days, with many established artists donating their work to the charity.
