Maldives-: Multi award-winning five-star resort JA Manafaru Maldives furthers its commitment to sustainability with the launch of the JA Manafaru Ocean Bottle, a reusable drinking bottle made partially from repurposed ocean plastics.
JA Manafaru is the first resort in the Maldives to partner with Ocean Bottle®, an entrepreneurial start-up attempting to close the loop on plastics entering world’s oceans. Every time a guest purchases a branded Ocean Bottle, it helps fund the collection of 11.4 kg of ocean plastic or the removal of the equivalent of 1000 x 500 ml single use plastic bottles from the world’s oceans. Guests with these bottles can also benefit from complimentary freshly filtered water at refill stations dotted around the island, as the resort introduced its own water bottling plant in 2019, as well as at participating venues within Maldives and throughout the world. Deeply committing to this project, the resort also recently helped fund the production of the ‘BOB’, the BIG Ocean Bottle. At 1000 mls, the bottle ensures the removal of 22.8kg of ocean plastics with every purchase.
Positioned at the most Northern tip of Maldives’ Haa Alifu Atoll, JA Manafaru is putting sustainability at the forefront of their activities in commitment towards the preservation of the natural beauty and wildlife of the surrounds. The soulful sanctuary and lush private islandresort sits idyllically where the Arabian Sea meets the vast Indian Ocean, brimming with colorful sea life. Steeped in deep multicultural history, the resort emanates an intoxicating blend of Eastern spirituality and Arabic hospitality, offering explorative and authentic tropical island experiences that celebrate Maldivian history and the captivating natural landscapes. The robust sustainability programme at JA Manafaru includes an upcoming solar field that generates up to 30% of the islands power by clean energy, proactive upcycling of furniture, used battery and disposable lighter collection, recycling and composting, supporting local suppliers through purchasing handicrafts, natural thatch for the roofs throughout the resort, and fish from local fisherman. The team also arranges regular beach clean-ups for guests, children and the local community, as well ‘House Reef Cleaning’ -an underwater reef-cleaning exercise, which certified divers can join.
