The MICHELIN Guide Malta 2021 is Here

Two additional restaurants awarded the MICHELIN STAR bringing the total number to five MICHELIN STAR Restaurants in Malta

For Immediate release: Dubai, United Arab Emirates –  Earlier this month, the MICHELIN Guide Malta 2021 has been released with two additional Maltese restaurants awarded a Michelin Star, bringing the total number of Michelin Star restaurants in Malta to 5.

The second edition of the guide includes 31 local restaurants spread across the islands of Malta and Gozo. With the two new restaurants to earn the Michelin Stars being Bahia and ION – The Harbour.

Named after the oranges which the area is known for, Bahia is a charming bistro located in a quiet village setting. Tyrone Mizzi, the talented head chef in Bahia, uses great quality ingredients to create wonderfully thought-out innovative dishes which change frequently throughout the seasons.

ION – The Harbour; situated in a luxury boutique hotel overlooking the Grand Harbour, offers dishes prepared by the talented chef Andrew Borg. The restaurant’s classical daily menu includes Mediterranean-influenced dishes with a modern edge, made from the best local produce and fresh ingredients supplied by local fishermen and farmers.

These two exciting restaurants join the first 3 Maltese restaurants to earn the Michelin Star; De Mondion, Noni and Under Grain.

Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guides, said: “the last year has created enormous challenges for the hospitality industry around the world and our hearts go out to all those facing difficulties in these trying times. Our inspectors, like the restaurants themselves, have had to adapt, but we were very pleased that they were able to spend time on the islands and find two new Michelin Stars and 5 new Michelin ‘Plates’ to add to the Guide”.

These restaurants are: The Fork and Cork in Rabat; Chophouse and Fernandõ Gastrotheque, both in Sliema; Zest in St Julian’s; and Mezzodi in Valletta. The Plate symbol denotes restaurants where you’ll experience “fresh ingredients, capably prepared; simply a good meal”.

The cooking scene on the Islands continues to excite with 2 more restaurants earning the Michelin Star. With International travel slowly going back to normal, visitors will get to use this guide to enjoy a fascinating culinary experience in the heart of the Mediterranean.
